January 3, 2006

Happy New Year! Jason and I spent a wonderful and relaxing week up north at Lake Camelot. There was plenty of time for reading (I highly recommend 'A Million Little Pieces'-- ignore the controversy) and relaxing. We spent the first three days alone, playing house. Jason started a cat scratch post in the garage and I read (again-- I highly recommend 'A Million Little Pieces'). As the New Years weekend approached, the Dawg (great friend and college roommate Erin) from Colorado and her sister came to the cabin for a visit. Kate (Erin's sister) attends UW Stevens Point-- so they were only 30 minutes away. We had a great night of snacking, movie watching (40 Year Old Virgin), and Hoopla playing!

Jim, Jamie, Dad, and Toomey also joined us for the New Years weekend-- they arrived just before the snowstorm on Friday night. Jason and I were thrilled-- seeing we can only take 2-3 days max of inaction and quiet time--- I mean really--- we live on Brady Street!! We were a little nervous going into the weekend that it would just be the two of us and Brady ringing in 2006--- so we were thrilled when some of our favorite people called saying they'd love to join us!

The weekend was spent overindulging, gambling, pokering, jagerbombing, and hooplaing. A very relaxing weekend in a very relaxing cottage!

We were sad to return to reality on Monday morning--- back to Milwaukee-- back to the overdecorated apartment-- back to school to unpack the classroom and prepare for the students return on Tuesday--- back to everything but sitting in the cozy messaging chairs in the cottage with a blanket and book (yeah--- 'A Million Little Pieces').

We ran a few errands before calling it a night on Brady Street-- cat box needed changing-- no shampoo-- and might as well grab a pregnancy test (because Carie's boobs feel like they're filled with lead).

Sleeping Monday night closely resembled the first day of school-- little to none. The alarm sounded at 5:45am-- time to see how the morning pee will react with the Clear Blu Pregnancy Test... we got the 'for dummies' version this time... instead of lines or dots or stripes... the test simply reads 'PREGNANT' or 'NOT PREGNANT'.... and you guessed it... half asleep... 6am on Tuesday morning... the test read 'PREGNANT'...

There was maybe 5...6...7.. seconds of jaw dropping shock... followed by a stumble into the bedroom to turn the light on with a 'hey jas' kind of morning.... um... yeah... so this thing says PREGNANT... (then it was his turn for 5...6...7... seconds of jaw dropping shock)...

So we put the PREGNANT test back in the bathroom and proceeded to get ready. The great thing about the Clear Blu tests is that the word PREGNANT remains for no less than 30 minutes... so our morning conversation was...'does it still say PREGNANT?'.... 'yep, still says PREGNANT'...

Needless to say, Tuesday was a blur.... can't say I remember too much about going to school... teaching at school... or coming home... but I do know that once I was back home I couldn't resist taking the 2nd test (they come in packs of two for disbelievers like myself)... I mean really... it wasn't going to say PREGNANT with afternoon pee... right?

Here is a picture of me with the afternoon pee test.... which also said PREGNANT... for no less than 30 minutes....

Here is a picture of Jason with the same afternoon test... which still says PREGNANT... for no less than 30 minutes....

I can feel it already--- we are in for the adventure of a lifetime.....
